Standout Summer Associate 2026
What is next and how to get new issues if you are still interested!
Team:
Its hard to believe its been about 10 months since the last issue of Standout Summer Associate went live! I am writing today to let you know that I’ve decided to restart the newsletter for Summer 2026.
A good deal of the content will remain the same (albeit for a new audience) but I am also hoping to experiment with new formats, new topics, and new approaches as well. A real 2.0.
I don’t want to presume that the information you needed last summer is the same as you’ll need this summer. As a result, I have decided to start a fresh Substack subscription for 2026 (aka you won’t be able to read new or old issues here). If you’d like to stay on the list, I hope you’ll consider subscribing here. I’ll only send one more reminder to this list once the newsletter goes live later this month.
And now here is my real ask.
If you gained value from the newsletter last summer please share it with a friend, mentee, professor, law firm mentor or education professional, or career services office. In particular if you worked at a firm or legal organization and can share it with the program coordinator that would be amazing. Ultimately, the hardest part of creating content is connecting it to the right audience. All you need to do is share the following (obviously you can personalize):
Standout Summer Associate is a short, daily-ish newsletter hosted by Georgetown Law Professor and How I Lawyer podcast host Jonah Perlin built around a simple question: what helps junior lawyers standout sustainably in their summer jobs? Easy to subscribe. Free for readers. I recommend signing up for it here.
And if you really want to help even more:
1) Repost, Like, Subscribe, or forward the LinkedIn post announcing SSA2026. This helps the algorithm connect me to the new lawyers who need it most AND
2) If you are in a position to, I hope you’ll consider joining as a sponsor. I'd like to bring on 1–3 flagship sponsors so the newsletter can stay free for readers. A firm, a legal product, or even an individual lawyer who's really into mentoring — every issue will include a thank-you. Send me a message if you're interested in discussing what sponsorship might look like.
Thanks for reading and have a great summer,
Jonah
