Swim season is in full swing at my house. And today’s reflection for summer associates is a simple but important reminder that I have learned from my pool-loving daughters:
It is Important to Swim Your Own Race
It is easy to look around you and try to “win” by comparing yourself to others in your summer class. But as I shared earlier this week here on SSA you are not being graded on a curve. It is not a comparison or competition against others.
The relevant comparison you should be focusing on is internal not external. Are you improving? Is this project better than the last one? Did you fix an error you made on the last assignment? Is your work product even 1% better than the last time?
Don’t lose that competitive spirit but make sure not to lose sight of the real competition you are trying to win.
Keep standing out,
Jonah
